February Gone Already

Category: Journal

Wow February is gone already!! Where did it go?? Seems that for us it went by in a blur of being sick once again, a birthday, costumes, Olympics, campfires and other craziness.

First it has been a tough year so far as we have spent most of it sick with either a flu or cold  . I am going to be so happy when the flu season is over. Next year we are definitely going to get our flu shots.

It was my Mom's B-day on the 15th and we all celebrated over at our place on the 14th with Chinese food and an Oreo cookie blizzard cake (her favs). That day was a lot of fun with Tristan as when he woke up he wanted to wear his pooh bear costume so I dragged him all over town shopping in that. Since he likes to pretend and dress up and has to wear a patch for his lazy eye (we always call him  a pirate) I figured I would buy him a pirate costume.  Well that was just too cool beans for him and he had to wear it as soon as he got home and later I took him out as a pirate to get the food. I think he wore that costume for 3 days straight.

I have been pulling in a lot of extra time at work in the past 2 weeks with 13 hour days so I haven't seen the kids much. To make up for it all I really try and make the weekends a lot of fun for them and with it being so warm here we have had a number of campfires in the backyard. The boys just love the fire and of course hot dogs and marshmallows, which I think is really what they like the most.

Finally with one last funny note Tristan likes to wear underwear on his head which he thinks is funny. It is funny to say the least but only really at home he tends to like to wear the underwear like that in public which does get you the strangest looks from people. "Come people have you never seen someone with underwear on their head before?" Rhys on the other hand well he just loves his puppy.

Mackhouse Upgrade

Category: Journal

Here it is! Finally after how long??? The new updated version of the mackhouse is here. Yes I know you have all stared at the under construction buttons and signs for way too long now  . I have been working on this this new look basically since we launched this site, but have never been happy with it. This I think without looking at all the versions is the 5th iteration. I had re-designed the entire site several times in different ways and colors etc. but was never happy with the result until I came across the idea of theming it on an arcade and arcade cabinet. This seemed to stick as well after all I am a game designer, however this idea came up over a year ago and it has taken till now to get it to this point.

Hopefully you all like the new theme title mackhouse arcade. I am still not happy with the header but it was created over a year 2 years ago and I just updated it to feature a new Tristan and Rhys. You will notice a new logo which is hints of other things I am up to. This theme is still a work in progress and their will be new features coming soon (if I can get my butt in gear  ) but for now enjoy the new look, hopefully faster load times, search, and collapsing archives.

I will be sending out a mass e-mail in the next day or so to let all of you know who have been watching this site. Hopefully I don't miss anyone. This is the biggest confirmation that this site is alive and well and will not be as neglected in the next coming months. Stay tune and let us know what you think in the comments (which no longer require a captcha image yay!!  :w00t:) and also any issues that you see (not properly tested in IE8).

Warm January

Category: Journal

Well Troy has certainly gotten better about updating the blog, but I unfortunately have not followed his lead very well.

Life just keeps on going – work work work, kids kids kids, and then finally the weekend for house work and quality kids time.  I've been very grateful for the unseasonably warm weather.  Tristan and Rhys have been playing outside most days that they are at home, especially Rhys.  Last Saturday he was outside for 2 hours, and I finally just gave him lunch outside.  He's started asking for tea every time we go out because I always make myself tea to keep warm.  He was so cute sitting there drinking his tea on the porch of the playhouse.

Tristan has been working hard at learning his tricycle.  It's hard around here as there are no sidewalks on our street, and lots of little hills.  Also, the streets are covered with sand right now making it harder for the little wheels on his bike.  We are hoping that in a few months we can go for walks as a family with Rhys in a stroller and Tristan on his bike.  We'll see, here's hoping.

It seems that Troy's mouth is finally getting better – he got the stitches out today, so he is now able to eat stuff like steamed vegetables and chicken noodle soup.  Definitely a relief, especially after a horrid stomach flu this weekend.

On a sadder note, I am off to Edmonton for the weekend with Rhys to go to my Uncle Art's funeral.  Uncle Art sure was a character – the only person in my extended family who could get away with threatening to streak at our wedding!  Always joking, always laughing.  I am looking forward to seeing my relatives again as it's been a while, but it's unfortunate that it's under these circumstances.

Here a few silly pics of our boys in aprons, to leave this post on a happier note.  And yes, Tristan really is that skinny!
