Christmas Card 2010

Category: Journal

Here we are almost at Christmas with one day left to go and most importantly only one day of work left for 2010. Yay!!

Last year I was lazy and didn’t create a Christmas card but with lots of encouragement at work I manage to pull this one out. Took me way longer than I had anticipated as I am really really rusty. Guess i should start drawing more.├âÔÇÜ├é┬á For this year used inspiration from fifties illustration although I am not sure it came out completely. Anyways without further ado here it is, Merry Christmas.

Waterfall

Category: Journal

It is finally time I get around to posting about the summer and into fall long project that I have been working on. Since we have moved into this house we have done lots of things to the yard but the one thing that has always bugged me the most has been this one corner in the backyard that I can see from the kitchen window. This corner has basically been a weed haven and was just slightly to steep and dry for grass. I have always wanted to have a waterfall and pond but with the boys ponds are just not the way to go. However, a pondless waterfall or disappearing waterfall started to intrigue me. So one Saturday afternoon in June I just up and started digging away.

October Fun and Halloween

Category: Journal

October seemed to wiz by and now it is all over and done with, possibly has it was full of birthdays, thanksgiving, pumpkins, last minute yard work and Halloween. All lots of fun but kept us busy just the same.

First I have to say that Rhys the 2 year old that he is, just likes to have as little clothing on as possible. Being that it was only 15 degrees out just didn't seem to phase him and he was a happy as can be.

Just like past years we had to visit the pumpkin patch to get pumpkins for pie, this year with Lyric and Aria as well. Rhys just loved the pig and took forever in finding a "Rhysy" sized pumpkin (trust me this took a long time from and nice size pumpkin down to what he is carrying in the picture. All in all it was a fun day that left the boys coming home with corn kernels in their shoes and hay in their hair from the hay maze.

Finally ending the month is of course Halloween. Now being where we work it does get a little crazy with the costumes and you don't come to work not dressed up. This year trying hard to not be out done I went as the Mad Hatter and Naomi as Alice, however I had to compete with Gumby, a giant banana, jellyfish, killer robots and Master Chief himself. The funniest thing was us all walking across the new pedestrian bridge over the highway next to the office which happen to be the grand opening that day (thinking it will be a yearly event now). The most fun being taking the boys trick or treating and boy did they ever get into it with a huge haul of candy. It took the boys I think close to an hour to sort their candy and the best being scaring daddy with the chocolate eye balls.

Now onto November…

The Long Lost Summer Post

Category: Journal

Yes I am posting on the summer deep into autumn, we have been very busy this summer and it shows in the fact that we haven't posted in a long will. We now is the time for us to get off our lazy butts and start this blog rolling again. This post will be a bit longer and full of images but hey we all got to get caught up.

First we will start with our first road trip as a family to Radium for my great aunt and uncle's 50th anniversary. The boys once we got to Radium had a really great time getting to explore the area and see the "mountains". The anniversary celebration was a lot of fun getting to meet some relatives that we have never met before at a Bavarian restaurant in Windermere with your choice of schnitzel, schnitzel or schnitzel (literally!!). The polka and yodeling was just hilarious. I have to say though at the end having the iPad was a huge bonus when trying to keep kids entertained in restaurants and in the car. Of course we had to stop in Sicamous for ice cream and to see the cows.

Of course the summer has been spent down at the lake as much as we possibly could. Unfortunately due to it being a cooler than normal summer and the numerous kids birthday parties to attend. The boys favourite of being down at the lake is uncle Sheldon's seadoo and picnics although they do like going in the kayak as well. We have also seen Tristan get more and more comfortable with the water which is soo good to see.

Speaking of birthdays numerous ones where celebrated including uncle Dave, Nana (Bea), uncle Sheldon a little early and of course Tristan. Some where celebrated a little more extravigatly then others that being Sheldon's with a medieval feast at the Gausthouse and Tristan's pirate party. Tristan's present from us this year was a tickle trunk to store all his costumes in, one of his favourite things is dressing up.

Peppered in all of this was lots of other fun. Let's see there was local festivals, staff parties, learning to ride bikes, parks, slip and slides, pools, tons of waffles with fresh local fruit, and picking vegetables out of the garden (tomatoes galour. On top of all this we got a special visit with our friends Alex and Hannah, it was really great to see them twice in one year instead of once every 3 or so years/

One big thing for us is that I finally broke down and got some irrigation put in and had the landscaper fix up the front of our house by the road. I had battled enough with the salt kill from every winter on the front lawn and manually watering. Now we amazingly green lawn all the time and use less water… Yay!! The boys loved watching this all get done from excatators to "the man" yes the man. The man was the landscaper that did all the work how over the course of 2 weeks became known to the boys as "Iron Man", he just loved this. With this work all being done I have also been extra inspired to build my water feature in the backyard but more of that in a later post.

One amazing highlight for Naomi and I was getting to go down to LA for a little over a week. Naomi has a yearly meet up with her team from work which consists of people from London, Sao Palo, Buenos Aires and of course here Kelowna. This year Naomi set up the event to be in LA specifically the Grand Californian at Disneyland. I got to tag along as we figured the hotel was paid for so it was just my expenses, and flight. It was a really awesome time very relaxing for me maybe not so much for Naomi as she had to work during the days but well worth it. I even got that chance to visit my friend in Tijuana after a train ride down the coast this was my fun adventure (including In & Out Burge, and a very quick walk around San Diego downtown) rand allowed me to see the great progress on the YWAM base they have made (of course I had to get some Tacos as well… yum!!!). We made sure to get as many pictures with mascots as possible for the kids and eat the Monte Cristos at New Orleans Cafe (highly highly recommend!!!) and I think I know almost every inch of Disneyland after 7 days in the park. On top of all this we got to visit with our friends Debbie and Shane and introduce their little guy Luke to Disney parades and the Tiki Tiki room. We have to say that American portions of food are huge!!! So much so that we had lunch often the next day off of previous nights meal… yikes! We do highly highly recommend that if you are at Disney you make the effort to see World of Color in the California Park it is simply one of the most breathtaking things I have every seen. After this great trip the boys got their special gift from Disneyland which they enjoyed so much.

After all this I leave you with a picture of our very silly boys er.. monkeys….

More Parades & Parties

Category: Journal

Yes even more parades and festivals and b-day parties. What a weekend for the boys aside from having to suffer from mom and dad cleaning the house on Sunday morn… such is the life of a kid. This weekend proved to be a ton of fun for the boys as we attend the Fat Cat Children's festival here on Saturday. Starting with the parade which of course the boys just loved and could not wait to begin. I am thinking that some day soon we will have to take them to a really grand parade. The really cool part of this was that in a 2 week period Rhys got over his fear of mascots and wanted to hug all of them… so cute. Unfortunately I was unable to get a picture of this.

After all this it was onto the festival itself with bouncy castles, crafts, face painting (Rhys does not like this still) and real lemonade. The boys had a great time but after 6 hours it was enough for all of us, more proof that the boys are just not ready for Disneyland. However our boys being who they are I think liked the beach the most.

Then it was Sunday and off to another B-day party which itself was complete with bouncy castle, face painting and you name it. Wow kids b-day parties are insane these days like it some sort of strange competion or something. I was not in attendance for this one as Naomi let me have an afternoon off down at the lake (hence the reason not many pictures) which was very much appreciated cept for Leeloo who got to swim for the first time. Turns out she is a great swimmer .

Parade’s, Fair’s & Crocodiles

Category: Journal

The last month has been very interesting as it seems that every weekend or so we are off doing something new with the boys. I guess that they are at the age where they are a lot of fun to take to different events small and big.

First it was the parade for May days here in Rutland. The parade wasn't super big or anything (nothing like Macy's) but for boys who had never been to one it was just perfect complete with tractors, clowns, tons of candy and even a rose for mom.

Then there was the Family fun day fair at the rec center here. For Tristan this was tons of fun mainly due to all the bouncy castles but he did have to learn the hard lesson of waiting in line. Tristan wasn't that thrilled of face painting but both boys loved the crafts and such. However the day did prove to us that the boys are too young for Disneyland yet as it was all very tiring for all of us and that was only after 3 hours.

Last let's not forget Croc-a-palooza!! Yes there is a crocodile rescue centre here in town and they put on an even to raise awareness and funds for what they do and a new facility. Of course I just had to take the boys. Sadly I didn't get many pictures of the crocs/alligators but the boys loved the tortoises. All in all it wasn't a huge event but can only grow year by year and it was good to support something as cool as this in town.

So far I am loving it. It is soo good for reading magazines, the net and well playing games. It will take me some time to get used to it and really use all it's features but more on that in future posts.

Now I can wait to get my new case for it and my stylus. Then I can more use it for a sketchpad at won't look like a dork carrying it around.

Herbert’s Revenge

Category: Journal

Yay!! After over a year of work and planning and consultation the game is finally launched. This is one of the many secret projects i have been working on at work along with the release of mission 11 on CP.

Very excited to have been working on another DS title and think that this is better than the first one. Hopefully the fans all agree and we can see sales like the first game.

Basically Herbert our resident villain makes his grand debut on the DS along with his trusty ever loyal sidekick Klutzy. This game was a lot of fun to make and there are some great memories, as well as pains but that is all par for the course. All in all though it was very good to be part of something very cool.

Lots O B-days!!

Category: Journal

Well wouldn't you know it may comes around at it is a ton of B-days! Let's see there is Rhys on the 12th, my dad's on the 15th, mine on the 17th and our best friend Ginny's on the 19th crazy!! There was even a birthday party for a little boy down the street Jaxon. So many b-day so many presents and cake and food and parties. But it is all so fun.

Rhys of course really enjoy's opening all the presents but does have to fight off his big brother a bit. Tristan is just in there like a dirty shirt, "teaching" his brother all about how it goes down, but hey a 2 year old needs to learn somehow.
