Birthday Party & Kayaking

Category: Journal

Aside from the kids both being completely miserable this past weekend it was a really fun one! We are not sure exactly why but they both had fevers and were just cranky all weekend. Lots of whining which i just love (yes no sarcasm here).

Rhys had his first birthday party and everyone was there including the dog(tyler's dog rolo). I finally got to meet Camilla Dave's girlfriend and i have to say i like her a lot and she seemed to really enjoy and fit in with the family. The kids had a lot of fun for the most part but all seemed to be really cranky and tired after while (fevers didn't help). Of course there were burgers, hot dogs and cake with little black forest cupcakes for the kids. Rhys didn't really get into his like Tristan did at his first but not feeling well probably had something to do with it. It was really great though to finally have everyone over for a BBQ in the yard and actually make use of it after all the hard work i have put into it.

Of course their where lots of presents too which for the kids is always fun. The only problem for rhys now that he has a big brother who really likes presents as well. Even i got a present from the in-laws of some really nice tea. Don't let the picture fool you i really did like the present (looks like i am disgusted lol).

One great thing about this weekend is the amount of time i got on the water (my favourite place to be). Now that it is getting warmer we can actually start to use the lake a little. I even jumped in for a dip… ok more like a frantic panic for my life as i hit the cold water and tried to get back to the dock. I took Tristan down to the lake and we went for a small Kayak ride. He just loved it and couldn't stop talking about it.

Birthdays, anniversaries, and other things

Category: Journal

May is pretty much an insane month around here for birthdays, anniversaries and the such. This weekend in particular featured many. First a little before the weekend was Rhys' on the 12th then my dad's on the 15th then mine on the 17th then our 8th anniversary, my aunt Kathy's anniversary and Ginny's birthday today! So happy birthday to all!

As far as b-days go we havn't celebrated Rhys' yet as he was really sick when we wanted to do it so it will be this weekend. We will deffinitly be posting the cake eating pics as is customary. We did get to celebrate my b-day this Sunday but nothing too spetacular just taking the kids to the park with Craig and Gin and then meeing up with them later for going out to eat with no kids. Naomi did surprise me with some awesome gifts (yay gadgets), a very interesting media center and an Xbox! Havn't had a chance to set up the xbox yet though but soon.

We have been trying to make good use of the yard whenever the weather co-operates here and the boys love it, this weekend being no exception. Cept one thing with little boys playing in the yard is they get really really dirty but boy do they have fun! Then they also get to have a bath every night which for them is double bonus for them.

All in all the weekend was a pretty good one except for one little glitch. We went on up to Vernon to have a look at a sailboat that we where interested in. Before we headed up i had asked nicely for some detail pictures to see if it was worth seeing. The seller didn't offer any better ones than what he had posted but by the angle the boat looked to be okay and it was a 27' catalina which is pretty much what i want. So we packed the boys up and headed on up there. To make a long story short the boat was not in any way near good condition and the seller is asking for the double what it is actually worth. To make it worse the guy took forever to get the boat out and then proceeded to waste my time showing me every minor detail and in the slowest fashion possible meanwhile the boys are getting ancy and tired and hungry. Finally we where able to leave and get the boys fed and let them run around the park a little before heading home. Of course we decided to get a small amount of groceries while the boys were passed out in the car. Having the mack curse i picked the wrong line and ended up with the slowest cashier, only to return to the van with Naomi trying to calm down 2 crying boys. In the end a 3 hour trip was 6 hours and not the best way to spend my day off, but we did manage to get some great pics of the boys in the park.

GDC, Medival Feasts and more

Category: Journal

HereI am back from Vancouver and GDC, well i guess i have been back since late wednesday night but have only now had the chance to post. Lots of things to catch up on and little bit to post here.

GDC ended up being a really good trip and i had a really great time. Overall the GDC wasn't too bad however if you are to compare it to the one held in San Fran and Austin it has a very long way to go but being the first year it wasn't too bad and i look forward to going next year. I took in a number of seminars for the most part they were really good but boy i have to say there were two in there that were supposed to be on fun and they were anything but fun, real stinkers those ones were. However, that being said i think we have talk about those ones the most so they might have accomplished their goals. I will say though that if you are going to present at one of these you really need to have a good professional presentation.

One of the great things or not so great about trips is the interesting food you get to encounter. Most of the places i got to eat at were awesome with really great food and i have to really recommend if you are in downtown Van the Lions Pub at the Terminal Club is really good and if you are into Thai then you must go to the SalaThai, best Thai food i think i have had (see picture below). If you are in Granville i don't reccomend Bridges as it is really nothing at all special i still can't find the crab and halibut i was supposed to get.

Things around here havn't been too exciting as of late. I have been down for a week solid with the flu (before GDC) and of course passed it onto the boys and Naomi. So the house hasn't been all that fun. In between we have been trying to enjoy the yard and i now have my garden planted, hopefully it will grow if it every warms up around here. The boys love the yard especially Tristan and Rhys is just first discovering all the interesting things there is outside. Unfortunatley Rhys seems to really like to eat dirt and rocks and the yucky taste doesn't bother him in the slightest. Of course i couldn't resist and just had to post a nudy bum as Rhys has discovered the joys of running around naked.

One really fun thing i got to do about wow two weeks ago was a medival feast here at the Gausthaus in peachland through work. Boy i have to say i almost went into a meat coma, but boy was it good and a lot of fun. The food never stopped and there was more meat that you can think so if you are a vegetarian i don't recomend however i am not. I hope to do this again sometime soon. Below here is a progression of the food for the night.
