Enjoying summer

Category: Journal

Yes yes I know it has been a long time since the last post, but as it is summer our minds are On many things other than the computer. Today we find ourselves down at the in-laws dock. I have to say it is slot different here with the boys (less relaxing) but good all the same and the best way to spend the hot summer day. At this very moment I am watching Rhys play in the pool but I think the boys are now tired and it is time to go.

Birthday Party & Kayaking

Category: Journal

Aside from the kids both being completely miserable this past weekend it was a really fun one! We are not sure exactly why but they both had fevers and were just cranky all weekend. Lots of whining which i just love (yes no sarcasm here).

Rhys had his first birthday party and everyone was there including the dog(tyler's dog rolo). I finally got to meet Camilla Dave's girlfriend and i have to say i like her a lot and she seemed to really enjoy and fit in with the family. The kids had a lot of fun for the most part but all seemed to be really cranky and tired after while (fevers didn't help). Of course there were burgers, hot dogs and cake with little black forest cupcakes for the kids. Rhys didn't really get into his like Tristan did at his first but not feeling well probably had something to do with it. It was really great though to finally have everyone over for a BBQ in the yard and actually make use of it after all the hard work i have put into it.

Of course their where lots of presents too which for the kids is always fun. The only problem for rhys now that he has a big brother who really likes presents as well. Even i got a present from the in-laws of some really nice tea. Don't let the picture fool you i really did like the present (looks like i am disgusted lol).

One great thing about this weekend is the amount of time i got on the water (my favourite place to be). Now that it is getting warmer we can actually start to use the lake a little. I even jumped in for a dip… ok more like a frantic panic for my life as i hit the cold water and tried to get back to the dock. I took Tristan down to the lake and we went for a small Kayak ride. He just loved it and couldn't stop talking about it.

Birthdays, anniversaries, and other things

Category: Journal

May is pretty much an insane month around here for birthdays, anniversaries and the such. This weekend in particular featured many. First a little before the weekend was Rhys' on the 12th then my dad's on the 15th then mine on the 17th then our 8th anniversary, my aunt Kathy's anniversary and Ginny's birthday today! So happy birthday to all!

As far as b-days go we havn't celebrated Rhys' yet as he was really sick when we wanted to do it so it will be this weekend. We will deffinitly be posting the cake eating pics as is customary. We did get to celebrate my b-day this Sunday but nothing too spetacular just taking the kids to the park with Craig and Gin and then meeing up with them later for going out to eat with no kids. Naomi did surprise me with some awesome gifts (yay gadgets), a very interesting media center and an Xbox! Havn't had a chance to set up the xbox yet though but soon.

We have been trying to make good use of the yard whenever the weather co-operates here and the boys love it, this weekend being no exception. Cept one thing with little boys playing in the yard is they get really really dirty but boy do they have fun! Then they also get to have a bath every night which for them is double bonus for them.

All in all the weekend was a pretty good one except for one little glitch. We went on up to Vernon to have a look at a sailboat that we where interested in. Before we headed up i had asked nicely for some detail pictures to see if it was worth seeing. The seller didn't offer any better ones than what he had posted but by the angle the boat looked to be okay and it was a 27' catalina which is pretty much what i want. So we packed the boys up and headed on up there. To make a long story short the boat was not in any way near good condition and the seller is asking for the double what it is actually worth. To make it worse the guy took forever to get the boat out and then proceeded to waste my time showing me every minor detail and in the slowest fashion possible meanwhile the boys are getting ancy and tired and hungry. Finally we where able to leave and get the boys fed and let them run around the park a little before heading home. Of course we decided to get a small amount of groceries while the boys were passed out in the car. Having the mack curse i picked the wrong line and ended up with the slowest cashier, only to return to the van with Naomi trying to calm down 2 crying boys. In the end a 3 hour trip was 6 hours and not the best way to spend my day off, but we did manage to get some great pics of the boys in the park.

GDC, Medival Feasts and more

Category: Journal

HereI am back from Vancouver and GDC, well i guess i have been back since late wednesday night but have only now had the chance to post. Lots of things to catch up on and little bit to post here.

GDC ended up being a really good trip and i had a really great time. Overall the GDC wasn't too bad however if you are to compare it to the one held in San Fran and Austin it has a very long way to go but being the first year it wasn't too bad and i look forward to going next year. I took in a number of seminars for the most part they were really good but boy i have to say there were two in there that were supposed to be on fun and they were anything but fun, real stinkers those ones were. However, that being said i think we have talk about those ones the most so they might have accomplished their goals. I will say though that if you are going to present at one of these you really need to have a good professional presentation.

One of the great things or not so great about trips is the interesting food you get to encounter. Most of the places i got to eat at were awesome with really great food and i have to really recommend if you are in downtown Van the Lions Pub at the Terminal Club is really good and if you are into Thai then you must go to the SalaThai, best Thai food i think i have had (see picture below). If you are in Granville i don't reccomend Bridges as it is really nothing at all special i still can't find the crab and halibut i was supposed to get.

Things around here havn't been too exciting as of late. I have been down for a week solid with the flu (before GDC) and of course passed it onto the boys and Naomi. So the house hasn't been all that fun. In between we have been trying to enjoy the yard and i now have my garden planted, hopefully it will grow if it every warms up around here. The boys love the yard especially Tristan and Rhys is just first discovering all the interesting things there is outside. Unfortunatley Rhys seems to really like to eat dirt and rocks and the yucky taste doesn't bother him in the slightest. Of course i couldn't resist and just had to post a nudy bum as Rhys has discovered the joys of running around naked.

One really fun thing i got to do about wow two weeks ago was a medival feast here at the Gausthaus in peachland through work. Boy i have to say i almost went into a meat coma, but boy was it good and a lot of fun. The food never stopped and there was more meat that you can think so if you are a vegetarian i don't recomend however i am not. I hope to do this again sometime soon. Below here is a progression of the food for the night.

ELAN Winner

Category: Journal

I am back in town now as of yesterdays blitz trip from Vancouver and the Elan Awards. I am proud to say that the DS game won! Way to go team!!

Overall the evenging was fun and well interesting. It is always strange to be in a room full of people you don't know at all and be all dressed up to boot. The event it's self could use a lot more polish and better planning to really truly make it a great event. The awards themselves are very young and so who knows where they will go.

Of course the one big highlight of the evening was meeting Tom Kenny (aka voice of spongebob).

It was fun to hang out in Van even though it was incrediably short, and of course it is good to be home again with my family.

It’s Spring I Think?

Category: Journal

Wow it is spring already well at least we think it is. The weekend and today were really the only few days that gave any tell all signs that it is. Since it is finally spring it is probabl;y time for a post, yes we are still here and doing well. The boys and everything else have kept us so busy that we just don't get on the computer much lately nor really have the motivation to post being so tired at the end of the day.

THe biggest thing that has happend around here lately is the building of our new retaining wall. I have been wanting to build it for some time now and started digging out the area in the fall but ran out of time before the snow and cold kicked in. With the weather finally turning around here and wanting to get to it before it gets warm i took a few days off and 4 days built this little wall. Boy was that four tiring days and I am sure glad it is done. Now the boys are less likey to fall into the garden. Here are some before and after shots.

Now when i say it is hard to tell if it is spring around here i really mean it. Last Wednesday I picked up some cedars for a hedge on top of the wall and wouldn't you know it as they sat there in my driveway over night it snowed. Snow on April 2nd! What kind of crazy country do we live in??

The boys have been of course growing fast and are more and more fun each day. Tristan loves being back out in the yard and "helping" daddy, and it has been great to spend some quality time with him and still get some yard work done. Rhys has been lot of work lately as he just never seems to be put down but when he is down he crawls like crazy and is into everything!! He is now starting to stand and soon should be off and running, yikes! Rhys has also discovered the joys of feeding himself and really now wants nothing to do with you feeding him "mush".

Well that is if for now just a small update. I really haven't even taken many pictures lately, so will have to change that before the kids are in college.

Sauna & all things quiet

Category: Journal

Things have been very quiet here on the mackhouse blog but certainly not really all the quiet in the mackhouse. The past many weeks have been a long haul for us here dealing with sick kids and nursing ourselves to health as well. I think i have probably had about 5 colds so far this year YAY!! Right now all of us have been down for the count there are many snoty noses and aches and pains and way too much crying. Hopefully thing will turn around soon.

I have not had much access to my computer of late as we have been trying to get Rhys to sleep better on his own and get the boys in one room. So thing means for the time being that Rhys has taken over my office as his new room. With his cold now though his back in our room as we nurse him back to health so i have my computer back for the time being, but i have been working out some better solutions and putting my macbook to good use (boy do i ever love macs). If i can convince Naomi maybe i can put together a really simple server solution in our house and fullfill alot of my geekdom dreams, but i will digress.

AS most of have been wondering this is what our new sauna looks like and we have both been enjoying it alot. It has been a really nice relaxing escape. If anyone of you is interesting in purchasing one of these i highly recommend sunlight saunas as i did some extensive research and they are definitly the tops and well worth the coin.

Wear Pink Day

Category: Journal

Today if many of you don’t know was Pink Shirt Day. In a effort to help eliminate bullying and bring awareness to this problem in our schools and else where everyone is encouraged to wear some pink on this day. For more info on how this day got start you can check it out here. Pink Shirt Day

Well unfortunately I don’t really have anything pink to wear (hmm imagine that!) and when I asked Naomi if she might have anything pink surprisingly this girl doesn’t have anything pink. So with some thought I wondered what it would be like to not wear pink on this day and see the reaction. My little experiment was very interesting as immediately people would comment on the fact that I wasn’t wearing any pink and where is your pink? You should be wearing pink etc. Interestingly enough one of my co-workers was actually lightly harassed at a coffee shop for not wearing pink that they might not serve her unless she was.

So in the end my little experiment was interesting that on a day that is supposed to raise awareness of bullying it has cause a small amount of bullying. Of course there are always people that take it too far and in the end it is a good idea and is having a positive effect on our world.
