Training in Seattle

Category: Journal

Well here I am in Seattle. Yep that is right i am travelling again for business and this time it is for my new promotion. I have now been promoted to Game Manager. Very cool i must say but a little scary as i have to figure out this whole manager thing. Let me tell you it is a whole other ball of wax.

Coincedentally there was some management training just happening here in Seattle so here i am taking some really interesting courses. So far the first day has been really good, and we are being spoiled with were we are staying. We are staying at the Hotel Monaco in the downtown, and it has got to be the nicest hotel i have ever stayed in, i even have a goldfish in my room named George. Last nights meal was awesome as well as we ate at a steak hous for some of the best steak i have ever tasted now i have no idea what i am going to do for a bbq at home.

Anyways i will leave you all with these pics for now.

Open The Door To A Great Puzzle

Category: Journal

As you all know I make games for a living and more specifically puzzle games. So of course I love playing puzzle games as well I love the challenge and the fact that they are short. As a side note I hate jigsaw puzzles!!

Anyways I came across this gem last night and loved it. Ozzie Mercado presents us with the browser game Open Doors, in which we open doors. The game is such a nice and simple idea and it is presented very well with a nice solid simple clean design.I just don't like the chat thing on the side and the fact that you can't save your progress as I only made it to level 12 before I had to go do something else.

So if you need a break from something and love puzzle games head on over and check it out

Oh and Tristan seemed to like it too as every time I opened a door we would exclaim "doooorrrrr, dddoooooorrrrrr!!!".

Wall-E Review

Category: Journal

Alrighty since it has been a week since i have seen this film i thought i should get off my butt and write a review. So here it is.

First off i would like to say if you are even remotely thinking of seeing this film GO SEE IT NOW!!! Even if you weren't going to see this one you should trust me it is well worth the ticket price. The movie is a must see and has been the best film i have seen all year (of course we don't get to see many now-a-days).

Wall-E is an animated film about a robot left behind in a post-apocalyptic Earth 800 years from now. He spends his day doing his "directive" which is to compact garbage, and boy is there ever a lot of it to take care of. Through the years Wall-E has developed a bit of a personality and lives his life very much like we would. This of course all changes one day with the arrival of a "stranger". I will let you all watch to find out what happens next.

This film was highly entertaining both in story as Pixar always does well with, homour and well a good warning (moral) about where our world might be headed. I was absolutely amazed at how well this little robot could convey emotion and move the story forward with no dialog, close to 80% of this movie has no dialog. It really shows that the creators at Pixar are true masters of their craft, and even though this story is just about a robot within a few minutes of the film you truely care about this little guy as if we was a living breathing person.

All in all this film was a HUGE 10/10 and i would really love to see it again. It is for sure on my DVD christmas wish list. Wink

Lots of Birthdays

Category: Journal

Last weekend was the weekend for birthdays.  We were run off our feet getting to them all, but it was great to celebrate with different people.  Last Saturday night we went to Terry Brooks' 60th Birthday held at Troy's parents place.  It was a good time and we enjoyed seeing a lot of people we hadn't in a while.  Here's a picture of Ruth and Terry that night.

The next morning Troy took Tristan to his new buddy Jake's house for Jake's 3rd birthday.  They had lots of fun jumping on the trampoline and playing with the other kids.  Apparently Tristan doesn't like birthday cake though – must take after his Dad.  He took one bite and that was it – on to the fruit.  It's so much fun to watch Tristan interact with other kids!

That evening we went to Troy's Aunt Couleen's 50th birthday.

It was great to see the family and spend time with everyone.  We were the only ones there with little kids, and they sure did get a lot of attention!  Cousins Sarah, Katie, Brandon and Ryan were so great with Tristan.  He loved playing with them, and had such a good time.  He even gave the girls kisses when we left.  Rhys was of course a hit – but more with the adults.  We were thrilled to be able to show him off a bit and that he got to meet his Great Aunt Elke who came down from Alberta to surprise Couleen.  We know we promised not to put a picture of you on the blog, Elke, but this one with you and Rhys is so good we couldn't resist!

This past weekend Troy took Monday off so he could have a 4 day weekend.  Amazing how fast it went!  Tristan loved having his Dad with him all weekend.  We did lots of family stuff this weekend – spent time playing in the yard, going for walks etc.  Sunday we had lunch with my Uncle Elmer and Aunt Ellen here from Edmonton.  Monday we got to see Dave for the afternoon, then went to meet Craig and Ginny at the beach.  Unfortunately our beach time was abruptly cut short with a thunderstorm.  The rain hit as we were getting the kids into the car – it was so heavy Troy and I both got into the van to do up the carseats to avoid getting drenched.  Yesterday was Canada Day and Troy and Tristan went out on the boat with Mom and Dad Mack while I spent some time alone with Rhys.  It was really nice to be able to spend some special time just with him as Tristan can get pretty demanding of my time and sometimes I feel Rhys misses out a bit.  In the evening we had a few people from work over for a barbecue.  It was a lot of fun using our now finished deck and letting the kids play in the playhouse.  Tristan sure had a lot of fun with the other kids!

Well it's getting late and I gotta get to bed, but I'll leave you with a couple more shots of Rhys.
