Another One Already!

Category: Journal

Yes, that's right.  We're having another baby in about 6 months.  Here's the first picture of our new addition – not much detail yet as it's still pretty early – this ultrasound was at about 14 weeks.

We affectionately call this baby "Bump" as that's about all we can see right now.  Coming at the end of May, Tristan and Bump will be about 20 months apart – YIKES!  I know lots of people have kids that close, but to me the thought is both thrilling and scary.  I am excited to have another baby, but I feel that Tristan is still a baby.  At the same time, it will be good to have kids close in age – maybe they'll end up being good buddies. Who knows.

I have so far been blessed with a pretty easy pregnancy.  Besides the usual super-tiredness of the first few months and a few headaches, things have been going pretty good.  No morning sickness this time – YAY!  So for those of you who had the morning sickness bad in your first pregnancy, there is hope that you may not get it the second time.  I was very thankful of this as my office is far from the bathroom.  Because of this though, I don't really feel pregnant yet.  I only have a small belly (although larger than at this stage last time) and I can't feel any movement yet.

Well I can't leave a post without telling you all how good Tristan was when we got our flu shots today.  He didn't even make a noise – barely even flinched when the needle went in.  All the nurses (it was pretty dead) were waiting to see how the cute little baby would take his needle, and they were all shocked 5 min later to find out he had had his first.  What a good boy.  Hopefully this trend continues to his next immunizations… I think it had to do with Troy being there which means Troy should be the one to take him to all his shots!

Kitchen Reno Phase 1

Category: Journal

So i eluded to the fact that we just started some renos in a previous post and now have finally gotten around to posting about it. We have decided to do something about our small little kitchen and update it a little. Yep we are suckers for punishement, or i just don't have enough to do. We wanted something that was a little more open and workable and love having an open design such as a great room. Our old kitchen wasn't all that bad but really lacked in counter space and wasn't that comfortable especially when everyone always ends up in the kitchen. The biggest thing that bothered us was the floor as it was really wore and torn and well ugly. We have basically decided that we are going to be in this house for awhile so why not make it how we would like.

Anyways phase one is basically complete. We tore out the wall between out living room and dinning room, removed the sunshine ceiling and put in pot lights instead. I had a handyman come in a do this as i did not want to mess with the electrical. Good thing too as it was a lot of work. Now my work is cut out for with painting the ceiling, removing the header above the cupboards(we are taking them to the ceiling), removing the cabinets, painting and fixing up the walls, adding some more laminent to fill in the floor. Once this is all done we just have to wait for our cabinets and new island to be put in which finger crossed should be 2nd week of December. Then i can put in the new Kitchen floor and backsplash.

Here is some pics of the progress so far and a before of what the kitchen looked like looking towards the living room.

One Laptop Per Child

Category: Journal

It is getting close to Christmas and all us are now starting to think of buying Gifts. This year might I suggest maybe buying one of these for a child you don't know.

I have been following the One Laptop Per Child Project for some time now with growing interest. They have really put together an amazing package with lots of the latest greatest hardware and open source software out there. What this tiny laptop can do is awesome. They are designed to be rugged, highly portable, and very energy efficient. You can check out their site if you are really interested in all the specs and technical stuff. Originally these were only going to cost $100 dollars a piece but with rising production cost and for some of the tech they wanted to include the price has risen to a still very affordable $200.

They have been receiving lots of orders from numerous countries but just recently have had them avaibable for donation. Just as of November 12th they launched the “Buy one give one” program allowing you to pay $399 which donates a laptop to a child in a developing country and then you get one for yourself. If you are not sure what to do with such a laptop you can still just donate one or both. We here at the mackhouse havn't decided if we really one for oursleves (i would love another cool gadget) but are defintly going to be donating one.

I am going to keep my eyes on this project and hope that it goes well as i have always been a firm believer in making sure people in developing countries have access to tools. These laptops are a great opportunity for kids in those countries to have access to a wealth of information and another tool for learning (who knows what they might create).

If you are interested just follow this link:

DONATE ONE AND YOUR GET A LAPTOP FOR YOUR CHILD TODAY!

The special only lasts till November 26th

Post Away!!

"Norbert never though that switching his mannequin spotter for the driver would be a problem."

Okay i just had to have this as the winner as i just about fell off my seat laughing. As some of you might know my dad once in awhile ok maybe often will use "suzie" the mannequin as a spotter in his boat so as not to get caught with out one. The mannequin has been the brunt of many jokes in my family and cause of a few CSI scares for me while it was stored in my shed.
