Arbor Finally Built

Category: Journal

This weekend overall was very un-eventful. We basically laid low and stayed at home. But this did give me the chance to finish my arbor which i had been planning on building all summer. With my shoulder finally feeling better this fall was the perfect time to get to it. It all started about 2 weeks ago when my dad and started working on it. Unfortunatly it took us a few hours just to drill 8 small holes in the concrete wall that we only got 2 posts up before dark. So it wasn't till this past weekend that i was able to get back at it.

This time the building went fairly smoothly cept for me falling off the ladder (need to buy a new one). Once i had a system down it didn't take too long to get the final 8 holes drilled. In the end i am really happy with the results, now if the grape vines will only grow real fast (if the deer don't stop eating them).

Weekend in Canmore

Category: Journal

Well it's been a while since I've written – so sorry about that.  And we've been back from Canmore for a whole week too and I'm just writing about it now.  There's always so much to do and so little time.  Such is life I guess.

Last weekend we took Tristan on his first road trip.  Let me tell you, 7 hours is a long time to expect a crawler/walker to sit in a carseat!  He did so well though – especially as on the way there we drove into the evening so it was past his bedtime.  We made sure to stop as he needed to to give him time to crawl around.

We arrived in Canmore on Thursday night and it was great to see Dar and Sheldon and Annika.  Tristan and Annika started playing together right away, even though they were both pretty sleepy.  Friday morning we stayed in and visited, and then in the afternoon we walked around Canmore and took in the sights.  Went to all the little shops on Main St. and took in the beautiful mountains.  After dinner we went for a walk along the river – it is so beautiful there.

That night we celebrated Tristan and Annika's birthdays as they had both been the week before we all met up.  We gave them chocolate cake, which is always fun to watch babies eat.  After the cake, in the tub, they were both about as miserable as can be.  It was funny as Tristan started crying, then Annika started crying for no reason at all – simply because Tristan was crying.  Then we all made the mistake of laughing at them and had some horribly hurt feelings and they carried on crying for about 15 minutes.  When we did presents afterwards, they got into much better moods.

Saturday we went into Banff and again walked around and looked at the shops.  We watched a guy make fudge in the chocolate shop and got icecream from Cow's.  Going to Cow's was a bit nostalgic for me as I remember it well from when my family went to Prince Edward Island when I was younger.  After a few hours in the stroller and being held, the kids were wrestless so we found a park for them to crawl around.  The sun was shining and it was so relaxing in the park, we all loved just lying there and soaking up the sun while the kids played.  We went out for dinner that night to the local Brew Pub in Canmore – it was great.  The meal was excellent and we all shared a pitcher of beer.  Troy and I both thought it was the best beer we had ever had – a great flavour with bit of honey sweetness.  Sheldon and Daralynn enjoyed it as well – not sure if they were as enthusiastic about it as we were.  We got to their store a few minutes after it had closed, and unfortunately weren't able to take any home. Sunday morning it was time to head home after breakfast.  We had a good weekend there, but I gotta say Sheldon, you need to buy Dar a Nintendo DS.  I think they may even come in Pink.  She got hooked on ours when we were there.  It's always great to spend time with family, and Dar and Sheldon, thank you so much for having us!  We really enjoyed spending time with you, and Canmore is such a beautiful place to do it.

Cake and Pictures

Category: Journal

So as promised here is the post with the pictures from Tristan's first B-day. His day basically started like any other and well we are pretty sure he has no clue that he is a 1 year old now, still just concerned with playing and eating. When it came to the actual party well i guess that dinner was just too boring and a nap was in order. Probably a result of Papa Stinner keeping him so busy all day. After a short nap it was time for learning to play ball with grandpa (got some great video but will have to post that some other day). Now for the part we were all waiting for the cake and not just any cake but grandma's rum laced black forest cake (yum!). At first he wasn't to sure what to do with cake but like any good boy he quickly figured it out.  Unfortunately if you enjoy our cake too much mom has to open your presents for you, but it is all worth it when you get a Bob the builder from your Uncle Ty(a very big hit). And a really cool name your own star penguin from your great aunt Elke. All in all it was a really good day for the peanut with more B-days to come. Now it off for a weekend in Canmore.

Happy 1st B-day Tristan!!

Category: Journal

Today is Tristan's first B-day so a very big Happy Birthday to him. Wow it is amazing to think that it has been a year already, and what a change we have seen in him already. Last year at this time all he could do was cry and as of last night now he can walk!

Anyways tonight is the festivities with our families and his first B-day cake. We will make sure to post all the pics later.

Dogs Dogs Dogs

Category: Journal

Well we hope you all had a great long weekend, we sure did! Though probably not all that relaxing as we keep ourselves busy. It seemed to that through the whole weekend Dogs was the big thing.

Basically Firday was probably the most relaxing as we didn't do a whole lot and I got to finally watch the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. I totally loved the movie, definitly far better than the live action ones from the 90's. It brought back so many memories though of watching the orginal cartoon series everyday after school. Cartoons were so much better then.

Saturday i had a lot of fun shopping with the peanut. I think he thought Costco was the best as he filled himself up on all the samples and half my hot dog. Hope he doesn't expect to eat like that everyday. So shopping is where the parade of dogs really started. The first one being a seeing eye Dog in the grocery store. Now Tristan seems to just love Dogs as everytime he sees one he gets a little excited, says "oh, oh" and points. Then when we got home our neighbour was dogsitting 2 dogs on top of the 2 she already has so of course we had to take Tristan over to see them. Then our friends Craig and Gin came on over bringing along their Dog Sadie. Tristan thought this was great fun as except for maybe the licking on his face. Though now he seems to think this is what you do to each other and tries to lick my face now.

Tristan also got to spend a lot of time doing one of his favourite things – being outside and playing with rocks. Everytime he is out in the yard he always sits himself down in front of the fire pit and figures that all the rocks surrounding it should be in the pit. Guess i will have to just get more rocks.

Sunday we met up with Craig and Gin again for a walk downtown and of course there was Dogs everywhere. That evenging we then ended up hanging out with Craig and Gin again for a night of games but first came the pizza. Now this wasn't just any pizza, we made this pizza with the left over home made salsa from the night before. All i can say is WOW was the that good pizza probably the best i have ever had so if you ever get the chance you have got to try and make pizza with fresh salsa instead of pizza sauce. YUM!!

Monday we were suposed to meet up with my parents for a day on the lake but the weather just wouldn't co-operate. So we went for a walk down the Kettle valley trestles instead. Of course my parents brought their dog along as well, and their was more than enough other dogs to make Tristan happy as well. I am thinking we are going to have to get a dog eventually as Tristan is even trying to say dog now.

All in all it was a great weekend and we had a lot of fun. But all the excitement and fun has a tendancy to wear a little baby out. That is ok as Mom likes to cuddle her baby anyways.
