Ouch!

Category: Journal

Well most of you have probably heard, and I think Troy's getting sick of telling the story, so I figured I should tell the rest of you what's going on in our lives right now.  Monday morning, Troy took a fall on his motorbike coming down Clifton Rd to our house.  The construction area has been really rough through there – worse than I think I've ever seen before.  There was loose gravel clear across the road, and there are potholes everywhere.  We've been concerned about the wear and tear on our car, and everyone around here has been complaining. Our second vehicle in the summer has been Troy's bike, so he was using it that day so I could have the car.

Troy's alright, but in a lot of pain.  He broke his collar bone and got scratched up a bit, but nothing that won't heal.  Seeing his helmet and leather jacket, I realize the importance of wearing all the gear – it could have been so much worse!  Troy's been off work all week and is going to go in again on Monday.  It's been tough on him – mostly I think he's really frustrated that he can't go to work or really do anything around the house.  He can't even pick up Tristan, which makes him really sad, and Tristan doesn't understand.

In other news in the mackhouse, Jodi and Rhian (our borders this year) are moving out this weekend.  Our house is sure going to feel empty without them! We are looking forward to enjoying our house to ourselves – our little family has never been alone here other than weekends.  This computer desperately needs to move to one of the spare rooms downstairs as Tristan keeps going for the cords with his new-found mobility.

I'll leave you with this picture of Troy and Tristan (pre-accident) from our hike on Sunday morning.

My Trip to Edmonton

Category: Journal

This past week I spent in Edmonton with my sister, brother-in-law and niece.  Dave came down for a few days while I was there too, so Dave, Dar and I got to spend some time together just the three of us.  It was really neat to do that, as it has been a while.  I also got to spend time with quite a few relatives – especially Melanie.

Dar and I of course spent some quality time shopping and even garage saleing.  Annika and Tristan were sure troopers as we always had to go into just one more store.  Oh well, they got lots of new clothes that I'm sure they're both totally excited about.

It was so much fun to see Tristan and Annika together – great to be cousins and so close in age.  This trip was really the first time they played together – and fought.  The coolest toy is always the one the other one is playing with – other than the registers which are hands down the best thing to play with.

I felt it was a really big week for Tristan developmentally – he learned how to get from his belly to sitting, then how to pull himself up to standing, and the day I went home he started crawling.  I'm sure having Annika as an example all week helped him out a bit.  Troy said he felt that Tristan's looks changed as well – his face was a little different.

One of the highlights of the trip was playing in Dar and Sheldon's backyard with the kids and Uncle Dave – the trampoline was so much fun and so was Annika's swing.  The kids were giggling and giggling out there.  Unfortunately we couldn't take advantage of the hot Edmonton weather more as the mosquitoes were everywhere.  One of my other favorite days was when we went to the waterpark at West Ed.  Tristan wasn't too sure of the slides, but I think he did pretty good.  Annika went on the baby slides all by herself – she was so excited to be there!  I don't think I've ever seen Tristan as tired as he was when we left there.  After going up the stairs for a few hours and swimming with a baby, I think I was almost as tired as he was!

It was a great trip, but I missed Troy a lot and it's always good to come home too.  Here're a few more pics for good measure.

My family is back

Category: Journal

Yay! my family is back and i missed them a lot. It was somewhat nice to have the house all to myself, but i didn't really get to relax in it at all. But that is ok i have my little family back and i love them very much, cept now i have to share the sheets again.

Tristan sure has changed a lot since they left last tues. He seems bigger, makes different sounds and now has started crawling just yesterday. The peanut is sure on the move and busier than ever with his mobility (crawl, wiggling, rolling and anything that will get him around), and even more curious about stuff. So look out world here he comes!!

Saturday was an awesome day, as i helped Craig out with setting up his kit. His band "Jam Shack" played for the relay for life in city park. It was an awesome day to play with record temperatures, perfect for swimming which i got to do and surfing earier in the day. Anyways they played two 40min sets and just rocked the park. Craig i am proud of you man you did awesome, even though i think your drum kit might be a little overkill.Wink I am looking forward to seeing the some of the video i took of them playing but for now here is some pics. Was hoping some of them would have turned out a little better.

Google Maps Even Better!!!

Category: Journal

Ok so i really liked Google maps, and now they made it even better!! Not only are they increasing the res of the maps but now they have added street level images. It's called street view. They have so far just done some of the major US cities but of course more will be added as the usual. So whenever you are navigating a street view enabled city a little person icon will appear. Just click him and drag him to where you want to view, and take a look around. You can even navigated up and down the street. Now you can visit cities without leaving your house, ok so it not a subsitute for the real thing but cool no the less.
