Oversized Donkey Kong

Category: Journal

Ok the geek in me just had to post this one when I saw it. Apparently some UC Santa Cruz students had way to much time on there hands.  They recreated the first level of Donkey Kong on the four story engineering building using Post-it's. Now if you could only make this playable.

House One Year Anniversary!

Category: Journal

So today marks the one year anniversary of owning our house. We took possesion of it last year on this day and it has been one crazy year since. With lots of updates to the house, lots of moving stuff in and out of the house, and lots of people living in this house with us. We have had my parents, my brother and still have Jodi and Rhian. In another 2 months though all will be much quieter as it will be just the 3 of us, but as always there is still lots of updates to do.

Here is an interesting view of our little home from an angle not many people can get to do.

Weekend With Family

Category: Journal

Well another weekend has gone by – I can hardly believe that April has come and gone.  It was a bit of a tough weekend for Troy just having had his wisdom teeth out on Thursday, but he did pretty good.  He of course craved steak all weekend simply because he couldn't have it.

Sunday we went over to Troy's parents and spent the day with them.  Tyler, Heather and Troy's Grandma were there as well.  It was really good to get some quality time with them as it seems to be really hard to get everyone together on Troy's side even though we all live in the same city.  Life gets in the way I guess.  Tristan had a great day with Grandma and Grandpa – tons of giggles.  His great-Grandma sure had him going too.  We also went for a walk around Casa Loma where Troy's parents live – what a beautiful neighborhood.  The trails around there are really nice too – next time I think we'll take the backpack cause there are some places just not meant for strollers.

Tristan has entered the super busy stage – everything within his reach must be banged, touched, put in his mouth.  He rolls across the room (as long as he can go left – he's not an ambi-roller very often) to get at toys or simply because he loves to move.  It can be tough to keep him on the carpet – I leave the room for a minute or two and come back to a thud with Tristan's head hitting hardwood or laminate or something hard as he rolls off the carpet.  He is starting to do the worm – wriggling his body to move forward.  Sometimes he can get a few inches, but he's still a little ways from crawling.  Good thing as we still need to childproof our living room!

Sheldon, Daralynn and Annika have been here for the last week, although they were in Seattle and Abbotsford the last few days.  Today, I spent the day with them as tomorrow they're flying back to Edmonton.  Dar and I took Tristan and Annika to Costco.  While Tristan wasn't pulling Annika's hair or trying to eat her nice bright dress, they did really well in the cart together.  And they sure were cute!

Farwell Wisdom… Teeth

Category: Art,Journal

Here i am sitting with a somewhat frozen mouth from having my wisdom teeth pulled today. I finally sent the little guys packing. The procedure ended up not being as bad as i thought it would be. Actually it was a little easier than having a cavity filled, except for the one tooth that just didn't want to come out so they had to break in into pieces.

So now i have a little bit less wisdom, not that i think i had all that much to begin with.

Here was the cartoon that came to my mind while they took my teeth out.

Need a Lantern?

Category: Journal

As many of you know i love gadgets. I just wish i had a enough money to buy all the gadgets i would like to have. Well here is another one to add to my list.

If you have a wide mouth water bottle, you can now turn it into a Lantern as well. It is called the Firefly by guytodesigns, and just screws onto any standard wide mouth bottle. This is great for camping or hmmm whatever else you might need the two things together in. Me i am usually not without my water bottle, so with this  i would never be without light.

If you want more info just head on over to the products site www.guytodesigns.com. Oh and don't forget to buy me one Wink.

Mackhouse has the stomach flu!!

Category: Journal

Ok it has been another long stint of no updates. After last weekend i was busy working in the yard and was very pleased at all that i got done. There is still a lot to do but things are well on their way for the spring of '07'. Basically i tore up the front yards landscaping which was all overgrown and replanted so nice ornamental grass and shrubs so it will look much cleaner and be easier to manage now.

Of course the long weekend also included Easter for us as well. This year we hosted Easter dinner with by having my parents, and my best friend mark and his finance' over for turkey dinner. This was our first big family dinner in our new house Yay! Next time we hope to have more people over, always more fun with a crowd. We even got to use our deck as it was a fairly warm day out. Of course i had my Dad carve the turkey as that is the grandpa's job and he is now the grandpa, and well let's face it if did it, it would have been a turkey massacre.

Unfortunately this week took a major down turn with Tristan getting the stomach flu via the Edmonton express. This is truly the first time i have ever seen him frown, so sad. As best i as could avoid it, i manage to pick it up as well on Saturday after trying so very hard to get the landscape rock down in the front yard. So now there is a pile of rock sitting in my driveway, waiting to be shoveled.

So now it is Tristan 5th day of the bug and he is a little better but still having problems. I am concerned has he has lost weight and just doesn't look himself at all. But he still gives me a big smile every time i see him. I am feeling a bit better today as the day goes on and stayed home from work to get better and not risk the rest of the office getting it. So far Naomi has been very lucky and not come down sick yet. I sure hope she doesn't. Right now her and the peanut are having a little snooze on the couch.

Well that is the update from Mackhouse or should i just change that to the sickhouse!

Swimming with Tristan

Category: Journal

The first day of my extra long weekend was well not exactly relaxing and very busy yet i feel i got nothing done. I spent a lot of time getting prices for railings at the different home stores as we are preparing to redo our deck. I am kinda happy though as the railing i like the best and would look the best is the cheaper of the 2.

After this it was off for swimming at the pool with Tristan. He seems to like swimming, of course who wouldn't when the pool is as warm as a hot tub!  We even met Dara and Sheldon's friends Derek and Jackie there, so it was cool to get to visit with them for a bit. Hopefully i will get another chance to take the little guy swimming.

After that it was off to get some plants for the landscaping i am doing in our yard. I even got some free plants from a lady i met at the landscape supply. She was getting rid of the same plants i was going to buy, so i ended up with over a hundred dollars worth of free plants. Unfortunately the place where i wanted to plant the one in our yard had a huge spiky ugly plant there, so after an hour of trying to get it out and daylight fading fast i tied it to the car and yanked it out. I ended up being so heavy i could only barely roll it out of the way.

Orange

Category: Journal

My life has a new theme…orange.  Ever since peanut's been eating, everything is orange – carrots, yams, peaches, squash, mangoes.  And everything they touch or Tristan touches seems to turn orange.  Even his cheeks and nose are starting to get the typical orange tinge of an early eater.  I didn't realize how much my laundry would increase as he started to eat.

In other news, they're still at it in front of our house.  They have not only ripped up the road, but our driveway as well.  We are not terribly impressed that there is going to be a big patch on our driveway – but what can you do?  At least we'll be getting something out of it.  Increased water pressure.  We'd better be able to almost peel the skin off our backs in the shower when they're done.  The construction woke Tristan up this morning – but I was about to wake him anyways.

Troy and I are looking forward to the easter weekend.  For Troy it starts tomorrow as he put in a lot of extra hours for his last game, and they wanted him to take a couple days off work right away to balance things out.  So we're gearing up for a weekend of yard work and spring cleaning.  Fun fun fun!  But at least we'll be together our little family.  Tristan's volunteered to wash the outside of the second floor windows and clean out the gutters, but since all the construction's putting so much dust in the air, we're going to wait on that.

Here's a couple pictures of peanut to leave you with – Tummy time and sleeping in the new car seat with my oh so cool shades.
