Back to Normal…sort of

Category: Journal

Well things are starting to get back to normal.  The past 2 weeks Jodi and Rhian were both gone for spring break, and as you've probably read, we had Grandpa Mack's funeral last week too.  Also, Troy had a big deadline at work so he was pulling 12+ hour days all last week.   So the 2 weeks when he didn't have to pick up the girls, I think there was only 1 night when he came home before he usually does.  Oh well, such is life.  There are less than 3 months left of the driving. Over the next month, the girls will be gone every weekend so we'll hardly see them.  It was good to see them yesterday though – they seemed happy to be back here.

Grandpa's funeral was hard but good.  Grandma's such a strong woman – I have a lot of respect for her.  It was good for the family to be together also.  We've never really spent a lot of time with the Mack cousins, and there were people there I had never met before.  Pictured below are Grandma at the graveside, and cousin Sarah spending time with Tristan.

Right now they're ripping up the road in front of our house.  Turns out they're going to be ripping up and repaving part of our driveway as well.  Looks like the city is going to take out a dead tree for us while they're at it – which is really nice cause then we don't have to worry about it.  Well this is what it looks like at our place right now – we have to pass between the pylons to get in and out of our driveway.  It was also quite interesting when Tristan and I went for our morning walk today – I left the house through the downstairs, and there were 8 people in fluorescent work clothes sitting in a circle on our front lawn having coffee break.  Quite interesting.

These next 2 photos have a little story to them.  The first we title "My first paycheck".  The second "What??? How much taxes does the government take?"

And a few pictures of my men.  When Troy cuts wood, I call him the "Marlboro Man" as he reminds me of the tough rugged man in Marlboro Ads.  The next 2 are of peanut so sleepy in the highchair and just hanging out in a hoodie – my favorite thing to dress him in.

Mission quest #3

Category: Journal

Yay!! it has finally been released. Today the my mission quest 3 "Case of the missing coins" is finally being released to the public for all to see. Hopefully they will all like it, and not tear it apart too much.

Night Vision

This quest has been about 2 and half weeks in the works, featuring many super cool upgrades. I took the game engine and updated it significantly with some enhanced dialoge functions, a night vision mode(see above), light switch capabilty, phone messages just to name a few. Of course the quest just would look as good with the awesome art of Gord & Chris as always. The Quest also features an in-game computer with a mini game, a game within a game(see below).

So check it out and let me know what you think.

Photos of Grandpa

Category: Journal

As promised here are some great pictures of Grandpa when he was much younger. Naomi and I are working on the slide show for the funeral, and my aunts scanned all these photos in for us, which has been a great help as we are both really busy right now. It has been so cool to look through these pictures and see his life and much of his life that i didn't know about. The one that i think is the coolest is the one from when he was in the Hitler youth. I looked up what the pins are on his chest and the one is the standard Nazi pin, and the other is a badge for sports honour. Anyways i hope you enjoy these few pictures, i know i always love looking at old photos.

Goodbye Grandpa Mack

Category: Journal

This post is all about my grandpa Mack who as many of you know passed away on Wednesday at 1:15pm peacefully. Writing this right now I am even missing him.

Grandpa Mack was too me one of the greatest men in my life and I looked up to him so much, not just cause he was my Grandpa. He was a great man who loved life and loved his family even more. Thinking back I don't think i can ever remember him not happy, he seemed to always weather things really well. He was someone you could always go to for advice, partly from his wisdom and from his great intelligence. One thing that has always stuck out to me and still does to this day was how smart he was. I think he really encouraged me to strive hard in academics. I used to love going to visit him and read through all his National Geographics which he always had a subscription to from who knows when. It is such a tragedy that in the end he basically became a prisoner in his own brain.

Sitting here thinking about him, brings back so many fond memories and good times. I think i would be here for a long time just trying to tell all about them. But i won't bore you all out there. In the end i feel so blessed and lucky to have had some one like him in my life and to call him Grandpa.

Unfortunately looking through all my digital photos i don't have many good photos of Grandpa. I did find this one so it will have to do for now. I am planning on posting a few really good ones as i get them.

Spring Break

Category: Journal

Well there hasn't been much new in our lives over the last little bit, but the biggest thing right now for us is that it's Spring Break.  Although we're not in school anymore, it matters to us because Rhian and Jodi (our hockey school billets) are both away.  Although they are both really nice, sometimes the driving can get overwhelming and it's nice for us to have this week and next for just our little family.  It can be hard to concentrate on us as a family unit when there's so much else going on, so eliminating one aspect of our busy lives helps a lot.

Also this week, my parents are away and are lending us a vehicle.  This is really nice for me as I'm not used to being able to get up and go whenever I like.  I'm concentrating on finding a gym that I really like this week.  My choices are somewhat limited as I need a gym with a daycare, but it looks like I'm going to settle on the YMCA.  Best bang for your buck.  Also, I'll get discounts to take Tristan to swimming which I'm very excited to do.  We're going to go on Thursday morning for the first time.

Now I wouldn't feel right about writing a post and not having a picture!  I wanted to get a shot of Tristan and Annika's cute little bums in their matching valentine's day pj's, but Annika kept crawling away and Tristan wasn't too happy to stay on his tummy.  So here's the best result I could get.

Eat Up!

Category: Journal

Well the newest thing in my life (well, Tristan's life, which is my life) is eating more than just liquids. We haven't had much variety yet, but everything he has he seems to love. I'm sure we'll come across something that he doesn't like too much at some point, but thus far he's been a really good eater.

It cracks me up to watch him eat. He gets so excited when he sees his little spoon come out. He lunges his whole body forward in the highchair towards the spoon – good thing they're soft!  He also will grab the handle of the spoon and shove it in his mouth if I'm not fast enough. Apparently babies are supposed to push the spoon away and turn their head when they're full – well that's only happened once so far. Normally he's upset that it's done, but I don't want to push him too much.

Well, not EVERYTHING in my life has to do with Tristan. An awful lot of it does, but this weekend Troy made sure that I felt special too. He and Craig had a whole day planned out for Ginny and I on Saturday. We were sent out to get coffees at about 3 o'clock, and we returned to the "Mack 'n Becker Spa". They had candles burning and slow calming music on and had a friend come over and give us manicures and pedicures. Meanwhile we were served pineapple and champagne while the guys were busy in the kitchen cooking dinner and taking care of the little ones.

And what a dinner it was! As anyone who has been a faithful reader of our blog for a long time knows, I LOVE tacos. Not taco time tacos, but the ones that you get in Mexico. Troy's been pretty good at perfecting them, and they made the guacamole and salsa from scratch. It was an awesome meal. In case that wasn't enough, they made sure we had our chocolate craving for the week (or month) satisfied with a chocolate fondue. Throughout all this they managed to take care of Tristan and Lyric and do all the cleaning. So a great big Thanks Boys! You guys did great at making us feel like we're still women and not just moms.

More colds!!!

Category: Journal

Yikes the Mackhouse just can't seem to get away from the bug, germs, bacteria, viruses, or whatever is out there. It is all out war against these little baddies. Naomi's sister Dara was here this past week with Annika and unfortunately Annika past her cold onto Naomi and Tristan. Naomi has it bad although she won't admit it. I certainly hope this is the end of it all for the house. In the end though Naomi had a good visit with Dara, but i didn't get to see her very much as a result. Here is Tristan with Annika, I thought he looks like he is holding a secret.

Amongst all the chaos of life and busyness of work etc. (Naomi has been doing lots of Contract stuff) We had an open house at my parents house to show off their new house. It seemed to go over well and with even a surprise visit from Aunt Elke. So Tristan finally got to meet his last Great Aunt. I managed to grad this shot of Tristan with my mom. You can sure tell they are of the same family.

And well here is one i couldn't resist to post as he is too cute!

Well i still think i have a long way to go with photography, but with some practice I might get there someday. Once in awhile though i manage to get a shot i really like. Here are some B&W ones i think turned out really well.

Well that is my post for today. Someday we will have to get Naomi back into posting. I think she is just shy of all you guys out there.
