Goodbye Joe!

Category: Journal

Today is a sad day as Joseph Barbera, co-founder of Hanna-Barbera and co-creater of animated characters as the Yogi bear, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones and the Jetsons, died today Dec. 18, 2006.

I just want to pay tribute to a man who has heavily influenced my life. Without his cartoons that i fell in love with, most favourite being The Flintstones, i might not have ever got into the career i now pursue. He helped create a love for cartoons and character in me that is still infectious to this day. Also many of the technics that he helped develop for animation i now use extensively in my own work daily.

It is sad to see another great animator pass away, but he has left a legacy that will live on forever and countless children and adults(i think i fall in this category) will enjoy for years to come. Goodbye Joe! you will be missed, and thank you for your wonderful cartoons!

Almost Christmas!

Category: Journal

It's the most wonderful time of the year. Isn't that how it goes?  There are some amazing things about Christmas – decorating, time with family and friends, Christmas parties etc, but Christmas can be a very difficult time as well.  One thing I've learned these past few weeks is that it's impossible to please everyone at Christmas.  There's only so much you can do without going insane and it's not a good thing to stress about it and lose sleep over tough decisions that happen because of the season.  'Tis the season to be jolly – not stressed out and depressed.

Anyways, on a more pleasant note, we've had a really great week.  Last Thursday we spent the evening decorating with Rhian and Jodi and one of Rhian's friends who was staying with us for the weekend.  We had a lot of fun taking out the decorations, setting up our somewhat stubby tree, drinking hot chocolate with candy canes, and of course eating some Christmas baking!  The girls are really starting to love holding Tristan and hanging out with him.  They are constantly taking pictures of him with their phones.  He's so much more fun now that he's reacting to people and smiling a lot, and they're starting to enjoy having him around.  Rhian asked me today if he'd be walking before they leave in June.  Considering he'll only be 9 and a half months old, I highly doubt it.  She was disappointed, but when I told her he might be crawling, she was much happier.

Friday night we went to our staff party.  It was a lot of fun – held at the Laurel.  The catering was great too – Okanagan's Finest – and definitely the finest turkey I've had.  There was a really great program, and we had fun dancing and watching others dance.  It was really neat to see everyone dressed formal – the office is usually jeans and shirts.  In fact, sometimes it has been known to be too casual and relaxed with dress code.  We had fun at our table – a good mix of people we knew well so could easily talk to, and people that we wanted to get to know better. Here's Troy and I at the party – looking hot if I do say so myself!

A first for Troy and I came Friday night when Tristan spent the night at my parents house.  Only 3 days before he had moved out of our room, and we had him in a completely different house!  I am surprised at how well I did without him here.  I did walk over at about 830 to my parents place to see him though.  Tristan did well at my parents house as well – lots of cuddles for my little man at Nana and Papa's!

Sunday afternoon Troy and I picked up his Grandma and went to "Reflections of Christmas" a production put on by a few of the local churches.  Troy's mom was in the choir and his Aunt Kathy sang a solo.  It was really good – we enjoyed ourselves.  Afterwards we went to Craig and Ginny's for nachos, and ended up eating them by candlelight.  The power was off for about 2 hours.  It occurred to me as we left that it just may have been the last time I saw Ginny pregnant.  She's looking great, but definitely ready to pop that baby out.

Tonight was more celebrating at the Mack's for Tyler's birthday.  We had a good dinner, hottub and played pool.  Heather made a really good pumpkin dessert – mmmmm, pumpkin.  It was nice as Heather and I were able to bond a bit talking in the hot tub for about an hour.  I think it was the longest I've ever been able to sit in a hot tub – usually I'm the first one out!  I could tell that Grandma sure missed Tristan as she held onto him pretty tight.  Tyler held Tristan for the first time as well – now that he's a bit bigger and can hold his head up himself it's much more fun.  They looked funny together with their bald heads!

The next week is looking pretty busy, finishing up wrapping all those presents for Christmas and getting everything prepared.  I'm looking forward to seeing Sheldon, Daralynn and Annika again – they fly in Christmas Eve.  We get to have our whole family together this year for Christmas Eve – and it's much more fun now that Annika and Tristan are around and the family's a little bigger.  Christmas Day it will be nice to see Troy's Aunts and their families at his parents house.

I wish you all a great week-before-Christmas and hope you all have your shopping done!

More room in the Mackhouse!

Category: Journal

We are all breathing a big sigh of relief here in the Mackhouse. My parents finally moved into their new home this weekend. We spent the weekend helping them move and putting things away. Then it was onto our house as well with cleaning and setting up the space for the girls to use. Rhian is moving out of her room upstairs to the giant sized room downstairs and Tristan gets his very own room, well he will have to share it as a small office for me as well.

It is nice to have the extra room as 7 people in this house was a little crowded. Although we do miss my parents being around a little now. I think they probably miss being around Tristan the most. We will just have to visit them lots and use it as an excuse to use their hottubTongue out

Tristan has continued to grow like crazy as of today he is now 13lbs 10oz. Wow has he grown a lot. It is hard to imagine what he was like 3 months ago, being half that size. He seems to want to grown up in a hurry. I have been really having fun with him lately. He seems to love talking to me and everytime i sit down with him he just coos and giggles and makes all sorts of sounds the whole time. He sure is one smiley baby as well.

We have been trying to grab some good smiling pics of him but he always moves so much and the lighting in our house is not that great. But we will keep trying. So stay tuned in!

My family back together

Category: Art,Journal

Yay! my small family is all back in town. I missed both Naomi and Tristan so very much. The little guy grew a lot in the week and a half they were gone and is a little more chubbier. He is still cute as ever and smiles a lot more now. He doesn't seem to smile as much for me. I think he has forgotten who i am. But he seems to like to talk to me.

I got the last of my Christmas lights up on the house. There isn't to much this year as i blew the budget on LED lights, but in the end it will be worth it. I think the house looks pretty cool though and next it year is should be even better.

Tonight we were over at the inlaws for dinner and my mother in law was talking about a little thing she had to make for her class at school. The theme being "Santa in Action" Rhian recommended that she do a Super Santa. So after much hinting i put this together for her. So i will post i here for all of you to enjoy and to help get the festive season rolling.

Visit to Edmonton

Category: Journal

Well here I am in Edmonton with Daralynn, Sheldon and Annika.  It's been super fun hanging out with my sister while our husbands are at work.  We've done all sorts of crazy things like dress our kids up like bugs and take pictures, bathe pukey and poopey kids at 11 at night, bundle them up and take them shopping, and go to nursery rhyme class.  I've been here for 10 days – a long time to be away from Troy.  I miss him so much!  I know it's been hard for him to be away from Tristan as well.

Since I've been here, I've acquired quite a lot of stuff.  In fact, I can't fit everything in my suitcases and have to leave some stuff here!  Most of it's from the shower that my sister and my Aunt Gladys had for me last weekend.  I also did a fair bit of Christmas shopping here, and I'll admit, some shopping for Tristan as well.  So all of the clothes that are for when Tristan's older are staying here until someone drives to Kelowna.

Yesterday, Sheldon took me and Aaron (friend of Sheldon and Daralynn's here in Edmonton) out snowmobiling.  I had never been before, and it was so much fun!  I even got to break in Daralynn's new pink helmet.

Since I've been here, it's been great to spend time with family and friends.  My shower was a lot of fun seeing family on my side and Troy's that I hadn't in a while.  I got to spend lots of time with my cousin Melanie – even got to go out for lunch sans Tristan! (Thanks Dar and Sheldon) It was also great to go over to Connie and Jeff's for dinner, and to meet Barb and Leona for lunch today.  I always enjoy coming out here, but am also looking forward to going home and seeing my wonderful husband again.
