Aussies

Category: Journal

Looks like we have made some more Aussie friends. Just on friday we had some aussies Bronte and Catherine come and stay with us. They are friends of friends of ours from Sydney Australia. Bronte and Catherine are here from their hometown of Adelaide (where Naomi was for sometime), and where up here from some holidays. On friday they drove up from Montana after staying with some friends there and having driven from denver before that.  It was a great time spending the weekend together and getting to know them, we all seemed to get along really well.  Naomi and I both agreed that having them here was just a huge blessing. It was fun jsut to talk and about everything and find more about Australia and telling them all about Canada etc. We just love other cultures. it is always amazing to me how different our countries can be from each other and we are all part of the "western world". Anyways they are now off to Banff for some fun in the snow and then they are going to come back here on friday before heading to the coast.  Lots of Driving ahead for them yet.

It is great to make some more friends even though they are on the other side of the world. Seems we have friends all over the world, guess we will just have to visit them all. IF we could just get out and travel more.

New Look

Category: Journal

Here is the new look of the website.  After trying to design some more pages for this site i felt like i had painted myself into a corner with the old design. So with this fresh new look i am hoping to avoid that. So far i like the look much better. I am still working out the kinks and finishing up some of the pieces, but wanted to get an opinion from you all out there.

I have put in a little switch on the sidemenu so you can select and compare the two different looks. So give it a try –>

EDIT:

I took out the switcher as we are going with this design now, and the switcher was problematic

Nickelback Concert

Category: Journal

I will start by saying WOW!! we had a lot of fun attending the Nickelback concert last night. Boy do i ever love concerts!! The crowd, the energy, and of course the loud music.  My ears are still ringing so it must have been good right? Well the music was great, they opened with Live one of Naomi and my favorite bands Naomi just had a big grin on her face. Nickelback put on a great show. Lots of pyrotechnics and an awesome drum solo. It was really cool as they had a huge video screen behind them which i am pretty sure was made of LED lights. I love LED lights there is soo much you can make with them.  The Coolest part of the concert was how close we were to the stage.  We were right up front with only our friends Craig and Gin in front for most of the concert.  Very cool

All in all it was a great night starting off with a few drinks and appys at our favourite pub Kelly O’brien’s and ending in 6 people in a small car waiting to get out of a deadlocked parkade. lol too funnny felt like being in high school all over again. We can’t wait for the next concert we can attend, wonder who it will be? My only regret of the evenging was that i ddin’t have a camera with me so no pictures from the evenging.   oh well.

Ok now i wasn’t going to mention this but i just have too.  So craig when you read this don’t kill me. Anyways i think Craig won the boner award for the night when he locked his truck up with the club and well wouldn’t you know it, he left the keys at home.  Ahhh craig my friend i won’t let you live that one down.

January Blues

Category: Journal

Well a few weeks ago everyone seemed to be all excited about Christmas and then the New Year, and now that we’re two and a half weeks into the year, all we’re doing is complaining!  I know cloudy days suck and it’s cold and grey, but at least it’s all uphill ’til summer from here.  The days are getting longer – I can already tell in the mornings that it gets light earlier than it did last week.  I’ve always wondered why there’s no holiday between New Years and Easter…the school days of having spring break are long gone.

I think the trick is to have things to look forward to during these grey months.  People should take their holidays in February or March – that way we’d have something to look forward to.  Why go away in summer when you can hang out by the lake and enjoy the sun?  Troy and I have decided to go away in March and are very much looking forward to our time away.  In the more immediate future, we’re looking forward to going to see Live and Nickleback tomorrow night and the hockey game Friday night.  In the next 2 weeks we have my sister and neice coming from Edmonton, my friend Debbie coming from LA, and some new friends, Bronte and Catherine, visiting from Australia.

My Geekyness

Category: Journal

Alright i am writing this to declare my geekyness.  Yes i am a nerd an love sci fi and especially Star Wars… did i just write that?   Well for christmas my brother gave me the Star Wars edition of Risk.  This in itself is not all that geeky.  The geekyness (if that is a word) lies in the fact that as i am playing the game i know all the planets and various other Star Wars trivia which had no real bearing on life at all. How i acquired all this imformation i am not all that sure. The sad thing is i know all sorts of useless tidbits of other things like Lord of the Rings, various comic book hero’s, and of course Star Trek. One would think that i attend conventions or something. That being said i wouldn’t mind catching Comi-con sometime. ahem.

Now the crazy thing is why can i not remember usefull information, some sort of information that would come in handy or change the world or something important. It seems that my brain is wired or "tuned in" to the geeky parts of this world. Naomi only smiles and shakes her head at me. Oh well i think i am slowly turning her into a geek as well.  (insert evil laugh hereemoticon)  I guess i will just have to embrass my geekyness and learn to live with it.  My name is Troy Mack and yes I AM A GEEK!!

Anyhow our game of risk was alot of fun regarless of how geeky it might be. We had my good buddy Mark over for dinner with the in-laws, and as it was my brother in law’s 2nd last night in town we decided to break in the game.  We only played the classic rules and didn’t get into the special Star Wars rules, maybe next time. In the end Mark won with Naomi taking over his spot when he had to leave. Hopefully next time we play i will win.

Groceries & Bananas

Category: Journal

Okay now this is a rant post. Today we went to get some groceries after naomi was finished work. Being a little lazy and tired we decided to got to The Great Canadian Superstore for groceries, especially as a few of the items we wanted could only be purchased there. Well i have to say that was one big mistake. I always forget how annoying it is to shop there. After so many empty shelves and no produce and wondering around the maze of aisles, i almost had to scream out loud. They didn’t even have bananas, how can you not have bananas everyone buys bananas. Then to top it all off they make me bag my own groceries all in the false sense that i am saving money by doing this. Once again i am remind as to why i call it the "Stupidstore".

Happy New Year!

Category: Journal

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hard to believe that the new year is here already.  What will it bring?  Will it be better than last year?  Worse?  Did my New Years resolutions work out for me or did I forget about them around January 15th?

This time of year is always good for reflections on the past, but most of all this year, we’re looking forward to a fresh start.  Troy and I kicked off the New Year alone this year – somehow going out to a big bash didn’t seem to be the way we wanted to start things off.  2005 was a difficult year for us, but of course there were some great things that came out of it too.  Most of all, the growing of our family with the birth of my neice, Annika.  We’ve learned a lot about life this year too – it doesn’t always dish out what you may expect.  Judging by my journal entries around last new years, we are miles away from where we expected to be right now.

Enough about the past – there’s plenty to look forward to this new year.  We’ll be moving into our own appartment sometime around the end of summer – our first place.  We’re really excited about this and have to hold ourselves back not to buy too much stuff for it right now.  We keep checking out the furniture sections and new dishes etc.  Starting next week I’ll be officially full time at my work – a huge blessing for us right now as well.  We have hopes of a holiday and perhaps mission trip in March, so we’ll see where that goes.  One thing we’re sure of though is that we are not going out of 2006 without having taken a trip together.  It’s been far too long and we need to get out of Kelowna even if only for a few weeks!

We hope your New Year is fabulous and that you are able to take the opportunity for a fresh start if you need it.
